Blueberries-2016-Week-1c

Picking season for 2024 is off to an early start. The weather has finally caught up, we are thick with berries and are open all week. Check with our Facebook page for weather closures and special events — like food trucks and the like. Hope to see everyone there.

This year is already looking good. We have gone back to using bumblebees for our pollinators — we have traditionally gotten good results with these. Our replanted sections are now a year in and projected to produce well — Arcadias, chickadees, Zelma’s (our private brand), prima donnas, sweet crisps, Windsors, Key crisp, and Kestrels. We will have plants for sale this year. We will not have pound cake this year.

Check back here or our Facebook page for more updates.

Aunt Zelma’s U Pick Blueberry farm in Island Grove Florida is the ideal outdoor getaway. We have acres and acres of blueberries, with six varieties of berries on almost 50,000 plants, with plenty of room for social distancing and family and group fun. Our plants are coming in nicely this year, and we are having another bumper crop.

Please note: Some Google searches made from the Orlando area point to an address in Winter Park. That was the business office where we registered our business license — there is no blueberry farm in downtown Winter Park. We are located between Ocala and Gainesville off Highway 301. Google does get it wrong on the rare occasion.

We can now accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover cards!

Open from 9 AM  through 5 PM during picking season. We provide the buckets and weigh the blueberries that are actually picked. Although the market price varies, typically the price runs approximately 5 dollars a pound which is roughly 1/2 of the typical grocery store price.

While we are not certified organic, we use no pesticides or herbicides on our berries — they are only touched by water and Florida Sunshine! You can eat them right off the bush — we encourage taste testing as you pick to find the variety you like best.

We are conveniently located right on US Highway 301 approximately 18 miles north of Ocala. We would very much enjoy having you and your families come visit us at Aunt Zelma’s Blueberries.

Zelma’s Blueberries offers a U-Pick option for our customers. We love to have people out at the farm and have made our You-Pick season a key part our our blueberry growing operation. Picking season varies depending on weather and when the berries ripen in the fields.

Picking starts around 9 a.m. as soon as the berries dry.

If you have any special needs, please call ahead so we can have extra staff on site to help out. Our number is 352-317-6110. Due to health regulations, we do not allow pets in the fields, but you can bring them to the parking area and picnic spots.

We are open seven days a week, but the focus on you pick is Friday Saturday and Sunday, with the hours from 9 AM to 5 PM. Frankly we usually close about six because we still have people in the field at that time.

We have several varieties of blueberries on the property, including Windsor and Sweet Crisp.

The weather has been very favorable for blueberries this year and we have an exceptionally good crop.

We hope to see everyone out at the farm. Look for our blueberry signs on U.S. 301 in Island Grove near Cross Creek and just 18 miles north of Ocala near Country Road 325 from Gainesville, Florida. We are conveniently located near I-75 and US 44, whether your are traveling between Tampa and Jacksonville, Orlando, Gainesville or other parts of Florida, we would love to have you come by and visit our blueberry farm.
